Christmas is right around the corner, and we have been busy buying gifts for our kids, gifts for our family, and sending out Christmas cards, Hickory Farms, and sausage ‘n cheese to all of our loved ones. With all of that busyness going on, sometimes we get distracted with the ins and outs of everyday life and don’t really take the time to appreciate what we have. I was recently given an opportunity to acknowledge my appreciation.

Because I’m a lot better at fixing, repairing, and maintaining houses than I am at fixing, repairing, and maintaining my own personal vehicle, I recently found out that we were going to have a semi unexpected expense of around $1800. The mechanic’s invoice included new tires (ours were so bald the steel cord was showing), tire alignment and balance, new brakes, new rotors, an oil change, a blower fan for the heater, brake light switch, and the cruise control repair.

For many years, I know Annabel and I would not have been able to sustain a $1,800 hit to our bank account right in the middle of December, two weeks before Christmas, without something else in our life suffering. We would be forced to choose between Christmas gifts for our kids, rent, or utilities. And there would have been absolutely no way any of our friends would have got anything!

I’m so appreciative that I have a supportive wife who helps me pursue my real estate investing and passive income goals. Those goals have allowed us to provide a nice Christmas for our family and give nice gifts to friends. It is great to be able to show our appreciation for them and not have to worry about these unexpected bills that always seem to pop up at the wrong time.

The same day I swiped my card to pay my $1,800 truck repair bill, I also got two automatic texts from my bank. The first said $1215.88 had been successfully deposited into my account. The second said an additional $912 had been deposited automatically into my account. These two deposits came from the rent my tenants paid for living in my first two properties. That money is passive income that I didn’t have to go to work for, it is the passive income that paid my repair bill, and it is the passive income that has allowed my kids to enjoy Christmas this year.
